How much does self storage cost in London?

We understand that self storage is something most people do only rarely. That means you might not have any benchmarks when it comes to how much it costs and what you get for your money. So here’s a quick reference guide to the kinds and sizes of storage we offer. We’ll cover:

  • the prices of the various sizes
  • what types of storage we offer
  • what kind of things you can store in them
  • rough price comparisons with similar services around London

Remember that although we always represent great value for money, you should be wary of cheaper self storage solutions, as they might not offer the full 24/7 service and industry standard security that Kiwi does. It’s something to consider when you’re comparing prices.

Self storage

Our most popular and frequently used storage solution is self storage, for which we help hundreds of customers in the London area. Here’s all you need to know about the service and costing.

Self storage is where you bring the things you want to store to one of our centres in Wimbledon, Battersea or Wandsworth. You can drive here in a car or van, and if you’re only dropping off or picking up small items, you might be able to walk or use public transport. Simply choose the unit you want, then pop in during our opening hours (see individual locations for details) and securely access your things via a secure PIN code you’ll be given.

What is it?

Everyone has their own reasons for using a self storage facility. Top of the pile (sometimes literally) is simply decluttering your home, office, garage or club. We all have tons of things we don’t want to throw out, but which we don’t really use much. In such cases, long-term storage can help keep your house as empty as possible – in London, where space is at a premium, that’s crucial.

What use might it be to me?

There are a few factors that determine the cost of self-storage. The most significant one is the size. The bigger your unit, the more it’ll cost. For that reason, it’s important to work out how much space you’ll need before booking your unit, as you don’t want to pay more than you need.

What does it cost?

9 square foot storage unit

This is a 3 ft × 3 ft × 3 ft unit (27 cubic feet, 0.75 cubic metres). That’s about the size of a standard washing machine. It’s handy for storing luggage, backpacks, winter clothing, small pieces of furniture, or general boxes full of household goods. We call this size student storage, as it’s a cheap and handy way to reduce clutter in your student accommodation in London. It comes with free collection.

An extra foot in depth can make all the difference, so this 5 ft wide by 6 ft deep unit, with a height of 8 ft, might be just what you’re looking for. It has a capacity of 240 cubic feet, or 6.8 cubic metres. That could be a difference between storing a sofa on its feet or upright (or yes, Pythagoras – maybe even diagonally). You’ll have no trouble fitting plenty of furniture, bikes, holiday equipment including skis, or whatever you need to store away.

35 square foot storage unit

This unit is 5 ft wide by 7 ft deep, and has a height of 8 ft (a capacity of 280 cubic feet, or 7.9 cubic metres). That makes it about the size of an average spare room in a house, a greenhouse or a garden shed. This unit is 8 ft wide by 10 ft deep, and has a height of 8 ft (a capacity of 640 cubic feet, or 18.1 cubic metres). Need more storage space?

Don’t forget – you can order multiple units by mixing and matching the sizes you need. Just select your desired units and come along with your stuff.

The prices above are ideal for homeowners and small businesses, but we appreciate that many businesses will have very different storage demands. You might have seasonal needs, for example, or you could want to store stock or materials and have no place to keep them at your premises. Unless you think you can get by with one of the off-the-peg solutions listed above, it’s best to contact us so we can discuss your storage needs and make sure we’re giving you a cost-effective, business-friendly solution.

Business storage

Mobile storage is a convenient way to get your things in order, and it’s the choice for many of our customers, especially those with mobility issues or no transport of their own.

What is it?

With mobile storage, we come to you! All you have to do is gather together all the things you need to be stored, and book a collection. We’ll turn up with one of our standard Kiwi containers, help you to load it up and then take it all away to be stored in one of our secure storage facilities.

Mobile storage

1× Kiwi container with pick-up, storage and delivery

This is about the size of a normal supermarket delivery van, and has a deceptively large capacity.

Kiwi cost: from £18.80 per week incl VAT

London average: £25 per week

1× Kiwi container with pick-up, storage and delivery

This hopefully clarifies our various services in terms of cost and what you get for your money. As you can see, we’re competitively priced for the London market, and we’d always urge you to read the smallprint of any storage contract rather than looking at the top line.

Look out for introductory offers for the first few months that take a price hike thereafter, as they might not be efficient for your longer-term needs. If you’re ready to start, head over to our space estimator so you can work out what you’ll need.
